Virgin Atlantic announced yesterday a number of measures they are taking, as the airline industry deals with the after effects of the Coronavirus, including the closure of its London Gatwick base and the withdrawal of its 747 aircraft ‘JumboJets’.

Both the closure of Gatwick and the 747 departing from there fleet are notable – given the first flight for the airline in 1984 was from Gatwick to Newark, New Jersey on their first 747.

In recent times, the base at Gatwick has become smaller with just a handful of routes remaining. Las Vegas had already moved to Heathrow, with Havana due to do the same in July – and it is expected the remaining services will move across later in the year. These include Barbados, Orlando, Antigua (including Grenada and Tobago) and Montego Bay.
