Joanna Lumley's Silk Road Adventure - Istanbul and Cappadocia

Joanna Lumley has made a triumphant return to our screens this week, travelling along the famous 'Silk Route' from Europe to the Chinese border.  This week's first episode sees her travel from Venice, through Albania to Istanbul and then onwards to Cappadocia.

“I’m embarking on a 7000-mile journey following the route of the legendary Silk Road, that throughout history helped spread all manner of foods, inventions and cultures across Asia and Europe...my most adventurous and exotic journey yet.” Joanna Lumley

Why not try this for yourself, combining Istanbul, one of the world’s most remarkable cities, full of ancient monuments, awe-inspiring religious buildings and intoxicating bazaars, with the Cappadocia region, a spectacular landscape once at the heart of the Hittite empire, filled with ‘fairy chimney’ rock formations and underground cities, with our suggested itinerary combining the two landmarks of Turkey.

Fly from London to Istanbul with Turkish Airlines. Transfer to the Celal Sultan Hotel for 3 nights. (N)

Full days at leisure or optional tour of Istanbul, including Hagia Sofia, the Blue Mosque, Hippodrome, Grand Bazaar and Topkapi Palace. (B)

Morning transfer to the airport for a Turkish Airlines flight to Kayseri. Transfer to the Yunak Houses Hotel for 3 nights. (B)

Days at leisure. Alternatively, take optional excursions to the underground cities at Derinkuyu and Kaymakli or the Göreme open-air museum to see its frescoes and rockhewn churches. (B)

Morning transfer to the airport and fly to London with Turkish Airways, via Istanbul. (B)
